5 Reasons not to worry about your ATAR result

Congratulations on finishing your exams and completing high school! I hope you've been celebrating this huge achievement and getting excited for the next chapter in your life.

As you wait for your results, here are five things you should keep in mind:

1. Your ATAR is a ranking, not a score

Your ATAR isn't a direct reflection of your high school results – it indicates how you rank against other students in your year group. For example, if you achieve an ATAR of 75.00, it means you achieved as well as, or better than, 75 per cent of year 12s in WA, which is fantastic!

2. Your ATAR is your quickest pathway to university, not the only one

There are plenty of other ways to get into university if your results aren't on track. At Curtin, we have a variety of bridging or enabling courses to help you if you don’t meet our ATAR requirement or English proficiency. If you've been affected by financial factors or if you are an Indigenous Australian you may also be eligible for an alternative pathway into Curtin. In 2017, more than 2,000 students chose to study an enabling course to get into Curtin.

3. You can add or change your preferences

Your results will be posted online to TISC on 17 December 2018. If you don’t think you’ll get into your most preferred course, you can add or change your preferences by 11.00 pm, 18 December 2018, for the December round; or between 21 December 2018 and 4.30 pm, 15 January 2019, for the January round.

4. There are several ways to respond to your offer

The actions you take depend on if you’re happy with your offer and in which offer round you receive it – 21 December 2018 for the December (main) round and 22 January 2019 for the January (second) round. Find out more from TISC.

5. You're not in this alone

Curtin can provide you with course advice, and TISC can answer any questions you have relating to your ATAR calculation.
